The Occasional Blog

September 28, 2008 It has been a month since my 'blank page rant' - boy have we been busy! We've been to Utah and back, we've had the house painted and coiffed, and we're ready to help Rick celebrate his AARP milestone birthday (50!) next weekend. The trip to Utah was wonderful. It met (and exceeded) our expectations - we accomplished what we set out to do (real-estate scouting, reliving our December trip without the snow) and we thoroughly enjoyed just being in Moab. We even indulged ourselves in a little exploring into uncharted territory by driving out to the "Needles Overlook" through Canyon Rims Recreation Area, and found yet another terrific little scenic campground to "file away for later" out that road - it's called Windwhistle - and it's in a gorgeous little red-rock alcove in the juniper and sage prairie country that defines the drive out to the Needles Overlook. I myself am sick of searching for "new and improved" superlative adjectives to describe the next incredible thing we see in Utah - language is not built for views that occur in Utah. What else can I say? (probably lots, I hear you cry...) On the home front - we had the exterior of the house painted, and had the lonely wilds of the southwest corner of the property civilized --- we realize that while we're occasionally willing to let things revert to their natural state, that isn't the best plan when it comes to resale, and we are still optimistically hoping that the real estate market will start "going the other way" sometime in the next six months or so (OK, back to the old "Hope is not a Stategy"... I know - I know -) And... Rick is turning 50. Happens to everyone eventually (heh heh heh) - we're anticipating the weekend-long celebration over at Rick & Ro's hacienda - we'll camp on their grounds to stay close to the action - Friday night's "come as your favorite western actor or character", and Saturday's BBQ with live music and a big crowd - should provide some incredible photo ops! More on that in the next post, I'm sure!

August 29, 2008 For one who is rarely at a loss for words, I'm experiencing a severe case of blank page syndrome as I sit down to start this blog. I'm sure that over time, I won't have any trouble at all reporting, sharing, ranting, and generally spilling my guts, but just getting started is TOUGH! There is no "theme" just yet - no expectations to meet - just that old blank page staring me in the face. Where to begin? Extolling the virtues of life on California's central coast? Sharing the anticipation of moving away from here? Expressing the delight of getting up in the morning and walking around outside while it's not quite light? Singing the praises of a great cup of coffee? Ah - the possibilities are endless - and daunting. Macro or micro? Hopefully, this will evolve into something interesting - but as a former boss cautioned, Hope is not a strategy! At least the page is not blank anymore!
